Prague: Czech police are searching for a thief who stole the skull of Saint Zdislava of Lemberk from a basilica in Jablonne v Podjestedi. On Tuesday evening, an unidentified culprit broke a glass shrine and fled with the relic, which dates back more than 750 years.
Law enforcement released low-quality footage of a suspect dressed in black and wearing white shoes. St. Zdislava was a 13th-century noblewoman known for her mercy and charity, canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1995.
Prague Archbishop Stanislav Pribyl called the daylight robbery "devastating," as the skull was a major site of adoration for pilgrims. While the investigation continues, officials state the historical value of the stolen remains is "incalculable."
