Trump Says Iran Nuclear Threat Outweighs Economic Concerns

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains his top priority, even as Americans face rising fuel prices and economic pressure linked to the ongoing conflict.
Speaking before departing the White House for an official visit to China, Trump said he is “not even a little bit” focused on the financial struggles Americans are facing because of the war.
“The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran is that they cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Trump told reporters, adding that economic concerns and stock market fluctuations are secondary to national security.
The remarks come as tensions continue to rise following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year. According to recent economic data, inflation climbed to 3.8% in April, driven largely by increasing energy costs. Gasoline and diesel prices have also surged nationwide.
Trump defended his position by saying most Americans understand the importance of stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions. However, Democrats criticized the comments, accusing the president of ignoring the economic hardships faced by ordinary citizens.
Recent polls show growing dissatisfaction with Trump’s handling of the economy and the Iran conflict, despite strong job growth and record highs in US stock markets.
Trump also said he plans to discuss the Iran war during upcoming talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but insisted the United States does not need China’s help to resolve the conflict.
“We’ll win it one way or the other peacefully or otherwise,” Trump said.
