Jeddah, 11 May — The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, has strongly condemned the recent drone and missile attacks targeting civilian and economic facilities in the United Arab Emirates, which Emirati authorities stated originated from Iran.
In his statement, the Secretary-General expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions in the region and reiterated the OIC’s firm call for an immediate cessation of hostilities across the territories of all Member States.
He stressed the importance of restraint and adherence to international law, emphasizing respect for the sovereignty of states, the principles of good neighbourliness, and the protection of civilian infrastructure from any form of attack.
Taha also commended the efforts of OIC Member States working to reduce tensions and highlighted the constructive role played by the Pakistan in supporting de-escalation efforts in the region. He noted Pakistan’s engagement in facilitating diplomatic dialogue and promoting a negotiating track aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.
The Secretary-General further underlined that sustained diplomatic engagement remains essential to prevent further escalation and to safeguard regional peace and security. He called for intensified international and regional coordination to address the underlying causes of conflict and to ensure stability in the region.
Reaffirming the OIC’s position, Taha stressed the need to uphold the principles of international law, ensure freedom of navigation, and protect vital civilian and economic installations from attacks that threaten regional and global security.
He concluded by reiterating the organization’s commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability in the region, and to fostering dialogue as the primary means of resolving disputes among states.
