Drone Strikes Hit Iran; UAE Confirms Interception of Aerial Threats

Tehran: Explosions and drone strikes were reported near Qeshm Island and coastal areas around Bandar Abbas, sharply escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media described the incidents as an “exchange of fire” with hostile forces, while Iran’s military accused the United States of targeting vessels and carrying out aerial attacks on strategic coastal locations.

The US military, however, said it launched defensive strikes after Iranian missiles, drones, and small boats threatened American naval destroyers operating in the Gulf region.

In a separate development, authorities in the United Arab Emirates confirmed that loud sounds heard across several emirates, including Fujairah, were caused by successful interceptions of incoming missiles and drones linked to Iranian threats.

The UAE’s Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems were actively engaged in neutralising aerial targets to protect the country’s airspace. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the possibility of a wider regional conflict, even as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation.
