The Kingdom of Bahrain has secured a seat on the executive board of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) following the election of Rashid Al Hamer, vice-president of the Bahrain Journalists Association and head of its international relations committee, during the organisation’s congress in Paris.

He received 122 votes in the election, earning a three-year term on the IFJ executive committee.

The result marks a notable achievement for Bahrain’s media sector and underscores its expanding presence within international press organisations.

The election was held during the IFJ congress in the French capital from May 4 to 7, coinciding with the federation’s 100th anniversary celebrations.

Founded in 1926 and headquartered in Brussels, the IFJ is the world’s largest journalists’ organisation, representing more than 600,000 media professionals globally.

He described the outcome as an important milestone for Bahraini journalism, saying it reflects the Kingdom’s strong international standing and the confidence global media institutions have in it.
