Jerusalem: The Israeli military stated Sunday that Saqr Nabil Musa Qaisi, Gaza director of Turkish humanitarian organization Deniz Feneri, was killed in a strike in the Khan Younis neighbourhood of southern Gaza. The military recognized Qaisi as a member of Hamas' elite Nukhba unit and accused him of being involved in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
According to the Israeli military, Qaisi maintained touch with key Hamas figures and Turkish officials while leading Deniz Feneri. Israel also claimed that he used his position in the organization to hire Hamas members, provide financial support to the group, and aid efforts to rebuild its capabilities. The military did not publicly present evidence to support the allegations.
Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah also reported Qaisi's death, alleging he was killed in a vehicle hit. According to reports, the event injured approximately ten other people.
Deniz Feneri confirmed Qaisi's death but portrayed him as a volunteer working in humanitarian aid. The group stated that he actively helped individuals in need and supported assistance efforts on the ground, but did not answer Israel's charges linking him to Hamas.
The Israeli military stated the operation was taken out because Qaisi allegedly participated in increasing attacks on Israeli personnel and civilians, as well as efforts to revive Hamas' military capabilities. Despite the ceasefire, emotions in Gaza remain high.
