Gerry Conway, the prolific writer who fundamentally reshaped the Marvel and DC universes, has died at the age of 73. Conway is most famously known for co-creating the anti-hero The Punisher and for writing the landmark 1973 story ‘The Night Gwen Stacy Died,’ a moment that ended the ‘Silver Age’ of innocence in comics.
Beginning his career as a teenager, Conway became the youngest person to write The Amazing Spider-Man. His influence extended far beyond Marvel; at DC Comics, he co-created characters like Firestorm, Power Girl, and Killer Croc.
He was also responsible for the first major modern crossover between the two giants: Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man. Beyond the page, Conway had a successful career in television, writing for Law & Order and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
His legacy remains a cornerstone of modern superhero storytelling.
