Málaga: Spanish authorities have dismantled a major counterfeit currency operation in Málaga, arresting an individual accused of shipping high-quality fake bank notes across Europe.

The enterprise, which utilised the dark web and cryptocurrency, was shut down after investigators uncovered a distribution network involving hundreds of postal shipments.

The suspect allegedly ran a fully equipped forgery laboratory from a private residence, producing various denominations of notes using specialised stamps, holographic paper, and inks.

These fraudulent notes were sold online and posted to various international destinations, with certain central European countries identified as primary targets. To evade detection, the individual reportedly used false identities and registered shipments under fake names.

The investigation began following a tip-off from international officials regarding suspicious dark web purchases paid for with cryptocurrency. A joint operation involving national and international law enforcement agencies eventually tracked the intercepted packages back to the Costa del Sol.

During the raid, officers seized a significant amount of counterfeit cash and substantial cryptocurrency assets. Footage released by the authorities shows the confiscation of printing equipment used to mimic genuine currency. The suspect has been brought before a court as the investigation into the sprawling network continues.
