Washington DC: James Comey, the former director of the FBI, maintained his innocence on Tuesday after being indicted by a grand jury in North Carolina.

The charges involve allegations that he threatened the life of President Donald Trump via a social media post.

The indictment centers on an Instagram post from last May featuring the numbers ‘86 47’ spelled out in seashells. While Comey, 65, has been a frequent critic of the president, Trump claimed the specific numbers were a coded reference to a potential assassination attempt.

In a video statement released shortly after the news broke, Comey appeared undeterred by the legal escalation. "I'm still innocent, I'm still not afraid, and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary, so let's go," he stated.

This legal battle marks a significant escalation in the long-standing feud between the former law enforcement official and the president. Authorities have moved forward with the indictment despite Comey's insistence that he has committed no crime.
