Abuja : A violent attack by gunmen in Nigeria's northeastern Adamawa state has left at least 29 people dead, according to local officials and witnesses. The assault targeted the village of Kwapre in the Hong local government area, a region that has frequently dealt with security challenges in recent years.

The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles and in vehicles, opened fire sporadically on residents and set fire to numerous homes and shops. Beyond those killed, several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities. Local sources report that a significant number of villagers have fled their homes, fearing further violence.

While no group has officially claimed responsibility for the massacre, security analysts note that the region is a known operating area for various armed groups, including remnants of insurgent organizations and bandit gangs. The Nigerian military and police have deployed additional personnel to the area to restore order and track down the perpetrators.

This latest incident underscores the persistent security crisis in northern Nigeria, where communities face frequent threats from mass kidnappings, communal clashes, and insurgent raids. Adamawa state officials have condemned the ‘barbaric’ attack and pledged to work with federal authorities to strengthen border security and community policing efforts to prevent future tragedies.
