Louisiana: A mass shooting in the United States has left several children and adults dead in what authorities have described as a domestic incident.
Police in Shreveport, Louisiana, said a father opened fire early on Sunday morning, killing seven of his children and another child who was not related to him. The victims were aged between one and 14 years old.
Authorities said the attack began around 05:00 local time at a residence, where the suspect also shot two adult women, including the mother of the children, who remain in critical condition.
Following the initial shooting, the suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and was later pursued by police. Officials said he was shot and killed after a chase into a nearby area.
Police described the incident as domestic in nature and said the suspect appeared to have acted alone. One child reportedly survived after jumping from the property and is receiving medical treatment.
Local officials and community leaders have expressed shock and grief, calling it one of the most tragic incidents the city has faced. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack, with support from state agencies.
Officials said the incident highlights a significant portion of violent crime linked to domestic situations in the region, as the community comes to terms with the scale of the tragedy.
