Islamabad : The Pakistani government has announced a two-day public holiday in the capital on April 10 and 11, as the city prepares to host historic peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.
The ‘Islamabad Talks’ follow a last-minute 14-day ceasefire brokered by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, narrowly averting a major military escalation in the Middle East.
The holiday is intended to ensure maximum security and smooth logistical operations as high-level diplomatic delegations arrive in the city. Prime Minister Sharif confirmed that the truce is contingent on the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a move expected to stabilize global energy markets.
While the atmosphere in Islamabad is one of cautious optimism, both Washington and Tehran have indicated that the negotiations will be rigorous, focusing on a 10-point proposal that addresses maritime security, sanctions, and regional military presence.
The Pakistani government has transformed the capital into a high-security diplomatic zone, emphasizing its role as a neutral mediator. As the world watches, these two days of closure in Islamabad mark the beginning of a critical window for international diplomacy, with the hope that face-to-face dialogue can translate a fragile ceasefire into a sustainable regional peace.
