Trump Slams NATO, Praises Gulf Allies
President Donald Trump has delivered a wide-ranging statement criticizing NATO allies, discussing global conflicts, and praising support from Middle Eastern countries, while highlighting U.S. military strength.
Speaking about defense cooperation, Trump claimed that NATO members have historically relied on U.S. support without offering equivalent assistance in return. He expressed skepticism over whether the alliance would stand by the United States in a major global conflict, referencing past disagreements with European leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Trump also touched on the ongoing war involving Russia and Ukraine, stating that tensions between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have made diplomatic resolution more difficult. He described the conflict as one of the most severe since World War II and suggested it could have been prevented under his leadership.
In contrast, Trump praised Gulf nations for their support, specifically acknowledging Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait for their cooperation in regional security matters.
Highlighting military capabilities, Trump described a recent defensive operation in which more than 100 incoming missiles were intercepted, showcasing advanced U.S. defense technology. He emphasized the speed and precision of missile defense systems, calling it a demonstration of unmatched technological superiority.
Trump also referenced previous U.S. military actions in Venezuela, suggesting rapid operational success and contrasting it with current larger-scale conflicts.
The remarks come amid ongoing global tensions and debates over military alliances, defense spending, and international cooperation in conflict zones.
