Trump-Xi Meeting Set for May Amid Ongoing Iran Conflict
The White House has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump will travel to Beijing on May 14–15 to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, following a delay caused by the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the meeting had been rescheduled due to the war, adding that a reciprocal visit by Xi to Washington, D.C., is expected later this year, with the exact date yet to be announced.
When asked whether the conflict with Iran would wind down before Trump visits China, Leavitt suggested that the administration has been working with an estimated timeline of four to six weeks. However, she did not provide a definitive end date, leaving uncertainty over whether the war will conclude before the high-level talks in Beijing.
Leavitt also addressed speculation about possible face-to-face negotiations between the United States and Iran in Pakistan. She emphasized that no such discussions should be considered official unless confirmed directly by the White House.
The upcoming meeting between Trump and Xi is expected to focus on key geopolitical and economic issues, with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East likely to be a central topic of discussion.
