Switzerland Halts Arms Export Approvals to US Over Iran Conflict

Bern: Switzerland has suspended approvals for weapons exports to the United States, citing its long-standing policy of neutrality amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Swiss government said that the export of war material to countries involved in the conflict with Iran cannot be authorised for the duration of hostilities. “Exports of war materiel to the USA cannot currently be authorised,” the statement said.

The decision was taken by the Federal Council, Switzerland’s executive body, which also announced that existing licences and exports of other goods would be reviewed by a panel of experts.

Officials said the move reflects Switzerland’s commitment to maintaining neutrality during international conflicts, a principle that has long guided its foreign and defence policies.

The suspension means no new arms export licences will be granted to the United States while the conflict continues, marking a significant step as tensions escalate in the region.
