IAEA Confirms Structure Hit Near Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that a structure located approximately 350 metres from the reactor at Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was struck and destroyed following a projectile incident reported on Tuesday evening.
According to Iranian authorities, the incident caused no damage to the reactor itself and no injuries were reported among staff at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear facility.
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi warned that any military activity near nuclear installations poses serious risks. He stressed that attacks at or near nuclear power plants violate the agency’s seven indispensable pillars designed to ensure nuclear safety and security during armed conflict.
The Bushehr facility, Iran’s only operational nuclear power plant, is located along the Persian Gulf and plays a key role in the country’s energy infrastructure.
Grossi reiterated that such incidents should never occur, urging restraint to avoid potentially catastrophic consequences.
