Bangkok: Twenty crew members rescued from a Thai cargo vessel attacked in the Strait of Hormuz arrived safely in Bangkok on Monday morning, Thai officials said.

The sailors landed at the city’s main airport at around 8 a.m. local time and were immediately escorted away by government officials, according to reporters at the scene.

An official from Thailand’s Department of Consular Affairs said all the returning crew members were in good health and ready to resume their duties.

The crew had been aboard the Thai cargo ship Mayuree Naree, which came under fire last Wednesday. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the vessel was targeted after it allegedly ignored warnings and attempted to pass through the strait illegally.

The claim was reported by Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.

Despite the rescue of most crew members, authorities said at least three crew remain missing.
