Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton informed a congressional panel that she had no idea regarding the criminal activities of Jeffrey Epstein, while simultaneously calling for lawmakers to question President Donald Trump under oath about his own past associations with the late sex offender. Speaking after hours of closed-door testimony before a congressional committee investigating Epstein, Clinton stated her desire to see the truth come out. Her appearance precedes that of her husband, former President Bill Clinton, who is scheduled to testify on Friday. The couple had initially resisted a subpoena from the panel, dismissing the inquiry as politically motivated, but ultimately agreed to testify as the threat of contempt-of-Congress proceedings began to loom.

Both the Clintons and Donald Trump have consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. Following six hours of discussion with House Oversight Committee members on Thursday, Clinton expressed disappointment to reporters that the testimony was not made public, noting that transparency would have removed the need for her to characterize the proceedings herself. Despite her criticisms of the process, she commended Chairman James Comer for raising significant questions and for listening to her suggestions regarding areas of the investigation that still need to be explored. She described the conclusion of the long and repetitive deposition as reassuring due to Comer's approach.

During her testimony, Clinton reportedly criticized Republican members of the committee for failing to question other deposed individuals about Epstein or his convicted associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. This aligns with the long-standing position of Bill Clinton, who has maintained that he had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes and severed ties with him two decades ago. The former president has previously stated that their contact was strictly related to charity work following his presidency and has voiced regret over his association with the financier, who died in a New York City jail in 2019.

Ahead of the hearing held in Chappaqua, New York, Hillary Clinton released a copy of her opening statement on X to clarify her position publicly. In the statement, she explicitly denied having any knowledge of the criminal activities of Epstein and Maxwell. She further asserted that she does not recall ever encountering Epstein, never traveled on his private plane, and never visited his island, homes, or offices, concluding that she had nothing further to add to those facts.
