Saudi Arabia Confirms Ramadan Crescent Sighting; Holy Month Begins Wednesday

The Supreme Court confirmed on Tuesday evening that the crescent moon signaling the start of Ramadan has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, officially declaring Wednesday as the first day of the holy month. The decision came after verified reports from authorized moon-sighting committees across the Kingdom, in line with established Islamic traditions.

With the announcement, Muslims throughout Saudi Arabia will begin fasting from dawn on Wednesday, marking the start of the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar — a time devoted to prayer, spiritual reflection, and charitable giving. Ramadan is observed through daily fasting from sunrise to sunset, along with increased acts of worship and strengthened community bonds.

Mosques nationwide are ready to welcome worshippers for Taraweeh prayers, while authorities have completed preparations to ensure smooth operations and services throughout the holy month. Meanwhile, government offices and private sector institutions will adopt revised working hours in accordance with the Ramadan schedule.
