Tehran: An explosion was reported on Saturday in Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas, according to Iranian media, though authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the blast.
Videos and images circulated on social media showed smoke rising from the area, while influencer Nioh Berg posted photos on X claiming explosions had occurred in both Ahvaz and Bandar Abbas within the past hour.
The semi-official Tasnim News Agency denied social media claims that a commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy had been targeted in the incident, calling the reports “completely false.”
Iranian media said investigations into the explosion were ongoing, but no further details were immediately available. No official statement had been issued at the time of reporting, and Iranian authorities could not be reached for comment.
Bandar Abbas is a strategically important port city located on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route for oil and gas exports.
