EU Imposes Sanctions on Iranian Officials Over Protest Crackdown

The European Union on Thursday imposed sanctions on Iran's interior minister, prosecutor general, and several regional commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, citing their role in a deadly crackdown on mass protests.

In total, the 27-member bloc added 15 officials and six entities to its blacklist, which includes asset freezes and travel bans, according to the EU’s official journal.

The sanctions follow ongoing discussions among EU foreign ministers, who are also expected to agree on designating Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a “terrorist” organization in a separate move.
