California: The astronauts assigned to SpaceX’s Crew-12 mission have completed their pre-flight training in California as part of final preparations ahead of a planned trip to the International Space Station (ISS), NASA and mission partners confirmed.
Training activities encompassed extensive simulations, systems rehearsals, and mission briefings, designed to ensure the four-person team is ready for the rigors of spaceflight aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft.
Once the crew’s media briefings and final checks conclude, the spacecraft is set to be transported to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, where SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket awaits liftoff duty.
NASA and SpaceX are currently reviewing options to possibly advance the launch timeline from the original target of mid-February, as teams monitor weather and readiness factors at the launch site and along Falcon 9’s flight path.
The mission will carry NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev into orbit.
Crew-12’s departure comes on the heels of the early return of Crew-11, which splashed down off the coast of California in January after a crewmember experienced a medical issue that prompted a premature end to their ISS expedition.
Once in orbit, the incoming Crew-12 team will relieve the station’s current residents, continuing scientific studies and maintenance operations that support human space exploration.
