Authorities in Saudi Arabia arrested a Asian national on charges of harassing a minor. The individual, identified by the Ministry of Interior as Khursheed Muhammad Nazir, was apprehended by the Najran Region Police in a joint operation with the General Directorate of Community Security and Combating Human Trafficking. Following his detention, officials confirmed that all necessary legal procedures have been initiated and the suspect has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further action.

The case falls under the strict provisions of Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Harassment Law, established by Royal Decree in 2018, which aims to combat such offences with significant legal consequences. While standard harassment charges can carry a penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of 100,000 riyals (10053.84 BD), the involvement of a minor triggers much harsher sentencing. Under the law, those found guilty of harassing a child face up to five years of imprisonment and fines reaching 300,000 riyals (30161.51 BD).

These heightened penalties also apply to several other specific circumstances, including offences committed against persons with special needs or victims who are unconscious at the time of the crime. The law further mandates stricter punishment if the perpetrator holds authority over the victim, if the incident occurs in environments like workplaces or care centres, or if the crime takes place during times of crisis or disaster. By enforcing these regulations, the Kingdom continues to emphasise a zero-tolerance policy toward the exploitation and harassment of vulnerable individuals.
