Queen Camilla has withdrawn from attending the funeral of the Duchess of Kent on Tuesday due to acute sinusitis, Buckingham Palace confirmed just hours before US President Donald Trump’s state visit.

The 78-year-old queen was scheduled to accompany King Charles III during a packed programme of royal events for President Trump’s visit on Wednesday and Thursday.

“With great regret, Her Majesty The Queen has withdrawn from attendance at this afternoon's Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent as she is recovering from acute sinusitis,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said.

According to reports, Camilla hopes to recover in time to participate in all aspects of President Trump’s state visit. She is expected to join King Charles III in receiving the Trumps at Windsor Castle on Wednesday around noon local time (1100 GMT).

The late Duchess of Kent, who passed away on September 5 at the age of 92, was married to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1961. Her funeral was held at Westminster Cathedral, with King Charles III, Prince William, and Princess Catherine in attendance.

The service marked a historic occasion as the first Catholic funeral for a member of the British royal family in modern history.
