Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet European leaders on Thursday in Paris, a source told AFP, as the international community works to find a path to end Russia’s three-and-a-half-year invasion of Ukraine.
The source confirmed that US President Donald Trump is not expected to attend the meeting.
Discussions are expected to focus on security guarantees for Ukraine and ways to promote diplomacy, particularly as Russia continues to resist efforts to bring the war to a close.
In recent weeks, diplomats have centered talks on Western-backed security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. Kyiv sees these guarantees as essential to preventing future Russian attacks. One proposal under consideration is a European peacekeeping force that could be deployed once the conflict ends.
Trump has signaled that the United States could support a European-led peacekeeping plan, but he clarified that American troops would not be sent to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russia has expressed strong opposition to the idea, with the Kremlin describing such plans as “unacceptable.”
