US Supports One-Year Extension for UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon

US envoy Tom Barrack announced on Tuesday that the United States will support extending the mandate of United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon for another year.
Speaking to journalists at Lebanon’s presidential palace, Barrack said the US is committed to backing the peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, as discussions continue at the UN Security Council about the force’s future.
“The United States’ position is we will extend for one year,” he stated, emphasizing Washington’s continued support for stability in the region.
