France Air-Drops 40 Tonnes of Aid to Gaza, Urges Israel to Allow Full Access

France has begun air-dropping emergency food supplies to Gaza as the region edges closer to famine.

On Friday, French aircraft dropped 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including food, in an effort to support civilians facing severe hunger. President Emmanuel Macron shared the update on social media, thanking Jordan, the UAE, Germany, and French military personnel for their help.

“Faced with absolute urgency, we have just conducted a food airdrop operation in Gaza,” Macron said. “But airdrops are not enough. Israel must open full humanitarian access to address the risk of famine.”

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said that France had organized four flights carrying 10 tonnes of aid each from Jordan.

International monitors have warned that a famine is unfolding in Gaza, with soaring malnutrition rates, restricted humanitarian access, and reports of children under five dying from hunger-related causes.

France has participated in six humanitarian airlifts since October 2023, as part of a European Union effort to send aid to Gaza via Jordan and Egypt.
