Türkiye Discovers Major Natural Gas Reserve in the Black Sea Worth $30 Billion
Türkiye has made a significant breakthrough in its energy sector with the discovery of a new natural gas reserve in the Black Sea, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on Saturday.
Speaking during a televised address, President Erdoğan revealed that the newly discovered reserve holds an estimated 75 billion cubic meters (2,650 billion cubic feet) of natural gas. He emphasized the strategic importance of the find, stating that it is sufficient to meet the residential energy needs of the country for approximately three and a half years.
"With this amount, we will meet the needs of our homes alone for about 3.5 years," Erdoğan said, highlighting the discovery’s potential to strengthen national energy security and reduce dependence on foreign energy sources. He valued the reserve at around $30 billion.
This latest discovery adds to previous finds in the Black Sea, as Türkiye continues its drive toward energy independence through domestic exploration and production.
