Indra Group and EDGE to Launch New Defence Manufacturing Company in Spain
EDGE, a global advanced technology and defence group, and Indra Group, a leading company in IT, aerospace, defence, and mobility systems, have announced plans to establish a new defence manufacturing company in Spain. The company will focus on developing, producing, and supporting loitering munitions and smart weapons for Spanish and European defence programmes.
The new venture aims to meet the growing demand for loitering munitions, backed by an estimated €2 billion multi-year order pipeline. Production is expected to take place in León, Spain, at a new facility developed by Indra, with an investment of €15–20 million.
The agreement was signed by Hamad Al Marar, CEO of EDGE Group, and José Vicente de Los Mozos, CEO of Indra Group, in the presence of senior officials, including Spain’s Secretary of State for Defence, Amparo Valcarcel, and the UAE Ambassador to Spain, H.E. Saleh Ahmad Salem Al Suwaidi.
Hamad Al Marar said, “This joint venture marks a key step in EDGE’s expansion into Europe. By producing loitering munitions in Spain, we can meet European defence needs while building long-term industrial capabilities with a trusted partner.”
José Vicente de Los Mozos added, “This initiative strengthens Indra’s role in the European drone industry. It allows us to quickly respond to the fast-growing loitering munitions market and develop advanced capabilities for Europe.”
The partnership reflects both companies’ commitment to building European-based defence capabilities, combining advanced technology with local manufacturing to ensure sovereignty and scalability.
