Tesla is exploring the possibility of launching a smaller electric pickup truck, following a lukewarm market response to its larger Cybertruck model.
Speaking at a Tesla owners and investors event in California, Lars Moravy, Tesla’s Vice President of Engineering, confirmed ongoing internal discussions about a compact truck. “We always talked about making a smaller pickup,” he said, noting that the current Cybertruck is too large for certain markets.
Moravy also indicated that Tesla is assessing opportunities in the medium truck and small van segment, particularly as the company continues development in autonomous vehicle technology. “We look at those options and we think about, OK, that kind of service is useful not just for people, but also for goods,” he said.
Tesla does not currently offer a delivery-focused vehicle. However, Moravy said the company has been actively working within its design studio to address that potential market.
While the Cybertruck has been marketed as a lifestyle vehicle, a more practical, midsized electric truck could broaden Tesla’s appeal if introduced.
