Ali Al Mass scored a daily high series of 782 pinfalls as play entered its final week of qualifying in the His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa First Bowling Championship, being held at Funland Centre.

Al Mass posted his best trial of the competition thus far and raised his total to 2,168 for a 240.89 average.

His two other top series were 695 and 691.

Participants in the qualification stage must play at least three trials to be eligible to advance to the ensuing rounds.

Their top three scores will be counted on the standings.

Al Mass improved to third place on the men’s division standings, and he now trails only leader Yousef Falah, who boasts a 2,215 total and 246.11 average, and Ahmed Al Mahri of the UAE, who owns marks of 2,205 and 245.00. Mohammed Ismail (2,123, 235.89) of the UAE is fourth, countryman Ali Alrashdi (2,120, 235.56) fifth, Mohammed Al Saud (2,104, 23.78) sixth, Abdulrahman Alkheliwi (2,098, 233.11) also of Saudi seventh, and Emerson Gotencio (2,085, 231.67) from the Philippines eighth.

Meanwhile, Bahrain national team superstar Nadia Al Awadhi continues to lead the women’s division standings with a 1,857 total and 206.33 average.

Her three best series so far are 751, 553 and 553. Hind Al Hammadi of the UAE follows in second place with a 1,269 total and 181.00 average, while Bahraini international Noora Sultan is third on marks of 1,624 and 180.44.

Layla Al Janahi (1,612, 179.22), Maricel Sultan (1,583, 175.89), Reem Jamal (1,544, 171.56) of the UAE, Nahla Adas (1,532, 170.22) from Saudi and Reem Sultan (1,488, 165.33) complete the women’s top eight. In the seniors’ division, Mohammed bin Sultan Al Saud from Saudi leads with a 2,035 total for a 226.11 average.

His best three trials include scores of 703, 697 and 635. Yousif Al Ali follows in second with counts of 2,006 and 222.89, while Dante Tisdom from the US is third with a 1,931 total and 214.56 average.

Completing the seniors’ top eight are Yasser Abu Alreesh (1,884, 209.33) from Saudi, Arif Murseel (1,867, 207.44), Mohammed Al Shawoosh (1,851, 205.67), Mustafa Al Gaed (1,827, 203.00) and Isa Akbari (1,756, 195.11). Qualification action continues today.

At the end of this stage, the top 24 men march through to their next phase, while only the top eight from the women’s and seniors’ divisions will qualify in their categories.

The tournament is scheduled to be held until Saturday, and it features prize money worth more than BD19,000, to be allocated to the top finishers in the men’s, women’s and seniors divisions.
