Bahrain kept their hopes alive at the sixth Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, with a 21–14 win over Kazakhstan in their final Pool C clash yesterday.
The victory secured third place in the group and a spot in the play-off round, bouncing back from earlier defeats to Qatar and India. Qatar finished top with a perfect record, followed by India, while Kazakhstan ended bottom.
Bogdan Dragovic delivered a standout performance, scoring 17 of Bahrain’s 21 points in a dominant display. He capped his effort with a decisive jump shot with 1:40 remaining to put the result beyond doubt. Austin Ajukwa added four points, while Nasser Al Musawi and Mohammed Kowayed also featured.
Speaking after the match, Al Musawi said the team is beginning to find its rhythm despite a slow start.
“We were dealt a tough start in the tournament and weren’t at the level required,” he said. “Maybe we didn’t have the right chemistry yet as the players are still getting used to each other, but the best is yet to come. We believe we can compete against anyone in this tournament.”
Bahrain now turn their focus to the play-offs, where they will face Mongolia, the runners-up from Pool B, at 7:15am Bahrain time for a place in the quarter-finals.
