Bahrain’s John Lopez Strikes Gold Twice in Weightlifting

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, praised the remarkable achievements of Bahrain’s athletes competing in the 3rd Asian Youth Games “Bahrain 2025.”

HH Shaikh Khalid emphasized that these results reflect the significant progress of Bahraini sports, made possible through the unwavering support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him.

His Highness made these remarks while attending the weightlifting competitions held at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre. HH Shaikh Khalid closely followed the impressive performance of Bahraini weightlifter John Lopez, who secured two gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk categories for the 94kg weight class, marking another proud moment for Bahrain.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa expressed his pride in this achievement, noting that it adds to the growing list of successes by Bahraini youth across various sports. He affirmed that such victories are the outcome of the training and development programs implemented by the Bahrain Olympic Committee and national sports federations to empower athletes to excel at both continental and international levels.

His Highness extended his congratulations to John Lopez and the technical and administrative teams of the national weightlifting squad for this well-deserved accomplishment, wishing continued success to all Bahraini athletes as they strive to raise the nation’s flag high at the Asian Youth Games.

HH Shaikh Khalid also attended other competitions held on the penultimate day of the Games, including jiu-jitsu, boxing, e-sports, and judo, where he commended the athletes’ dedication and sportsmanship.
