Sub-48 400m Sees Naser on Podium
Strong Showing for Bahrain's Athletes in Tokyo Worlds
Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser finished third in the women’s 400m final at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 yesterday, finishing behind Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino and American record-breaker Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. McLaughlin-Levrone won gold in a championship record 47.78, with Paulino taking silver in a personal best of 47.98.
Naser crossed third in 48.19, making this the first race in history where three women ran under 48 seconds.

Bahrain’s progress in Tokyo
On Wednesday, Winfred Yavi won bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in 8:56.46, behind Kenya’s Faith Cherotich (8:51.59) and Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew (8:58.86).
The USA lead the medal count with 12 (8 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze), followed by Kenya with 7 (4 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze), Canada 3 golds, New Zealand 2 golds, and Jamaica 1 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze.
With the Tokyo World Athletics Championships concluding on Sunday, Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew will compete in the men’s 5000m, while Nelly Jepkosgei ran in the women’s 800m heats, finishing 2:02.79 and missing out on the semi-finals.
