India cricket legend Rahul Dravid has stepped down as head coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rajasthan Royals after just one season, the franchise announced on Saturday.
Dravid, 52, was offered a broader role following a review of the team’s structure, but he declined the offer. The franchise confirmed that his tenure will end ahead of IPL 2026.
Dravid returned as head coach for this year’s T20 tournament, but Rajasthan Royals finished ninth out of ten teams, missing the playoffs.
“Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey over many years,” the team said. “His leadership shaped a generation of players, built strong team values, and left a lasting mark on the franchise’s culture.”
Dravid first joined Rajasthan as a player in 2011, captaining the team in 2012 and 2013. He also served as team director in 2014 and as mentor in 2015.
The former Indian captain scored 13,288 runs in 164 Test matches before retiring in 2012.
