Delhi Metro International Limited Takes India's Metro Expertise Global

From Delhi to the World

As countries across the GCC accelerate investments in metro and rail infrastructure, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is taking its globally recognised expertise beyond India through Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), a wholly owned subsidiary established to provide end-to-end consultancy, operations and maintenance (O&M), and project management services for urban transit systems worldwide. Drawing on the experience of building and operating one of the world's largest metro networks, DMIL is now actively pursuing opportunities across the GCC, Middle East, Europe, Australia and Asia, positioning itself as a comprehensive mobility partner for governments and transport authorities.

"The GCC region has emerged as one of the world's most dynamic markets for urban mobility development. Significant investments are being made in metro and rail infrastructure to support growing populations, economic diversification, and sustainability goals," says Sanjay Jamuar, Chief Executive Officer, Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL).

"DMIL has expertise in the entire value chain. Our parent company not only built one of the biggest metro systems in the world in a short time in Delhi under complex situations, but has also played a crucial role in the expansion of metro systems in other cities in India. We are ready to play the same role in the GCC."

While infrastructure development often takes centre stage, Jamuar believes the long-term success of transit systems depends equally on efficient operations and maintenance.

"Efficient operations and maintenance practices are crucial for the performance, reliability and financial sustainability of transit systems. DMIL makes use of DMRC's personnel, processes and management systems to provide O&M services. We provide expertise across operational planning, asset management, maintenance strategies, safety systems, performance monitoring, workforce training, emergency preparedness and operational readiness," he says.

The company also sees growing demand for knowledge transfer and capacity building, helping local authorities develop the technical and institutional capabilities required to operate world-class transit systems independently. Backed by the experience of one of the world's leading metro systems, DMIL enters the global market with a proven track record in delivering and operating large-scale urban transit networks. Delhi Metro today operates a network spanning over 416 kilometres with more than 300 stations, serving nearly 6.5 million passenger journeys daily.

According to Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communications, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the creation of DMIL reflects the growing international recognition of Delhi Metro's operational model.

“Delhi Metro's success has been built on a combination of engineering excellence, operational discipline and a relentless focus on passenger experience. Delhi Metro’s journey over the past two decades has demonstrated that large-scale urban transit systems can be delivered and operated efficiently, safely, and sustainably. Through Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), we are taking this expertise beyond India and supporting governments, transport authorities, and project developers in building world-class urban mobility systems.” says Dayal.

He adds that cities increasingly seek partners capable of supporting projects throughout their lifecycle.

"DMIL is positioning itself as an end-to-end mobility partner, capable of supporting everything from planning, engineering and project development to operations, maintenance, capacity building and knowledge transfer."

Beyond the National Capital Region, DMRC's expertise extends to operations and maintenance mandates for major metro systems across Chennai, Mumbai, Patna, Noida-Greater Noida and Gurugram, while also pioneering driverless metro operations in India through Unattended Train Operations (UTO) on over 90 kilometres of the Delhi Metro network. Leveraging this extensive experience, DMIL aims to support transit projects worldwide across the entire lifecycle from planning and implementation to operations, maintenance, asset management and capacity building offering international markets a partner with demonstrated expertise in delivering safe, reliable and passenger-centric mobility solutions.
