Bahrain narrowly lose to Malaysia


Bahrain went down in its final match and seventh defeat 84-87 yesterday to Malaysia to finish 12th place overall on the penultimate day of the 2015 FIBA Asia Under- 16 Basketball Championships at the Pulogadung Arena in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

The Bahrainis started well with a 21-16 lead after the first quarter and though they lost the second quarter, still had a narrow 45-43 lead at half time, but Malaysia won the third quarter 21-12 for an overall 64-57 lead going into the final quarter.

Top scorers for Bahrain were Fadhel Abdul Hussain and captain Mohammed Abdulkarim (18 points each), Karim Aboukuora (16) and Baqer Ali (15) and for Malaysia Kalven Lim (18), Joon Kana Lee (15) and Zhong Shin Thea (14). Bahrain’s team coached by Aaron Mitchell comprised Ali Salman, Mohammed Mohammed, Ayman Al Saffar. Hussain Ali, Fadhel Abdul Hussain, Baqer Ali, Noman Ahmed Khan, Hussain Mohammed and Mohammed Al Majed, Mohammed Abdulkarim and Karim Aboukuora.

In the other classification match, Iraq beat Indonesia to finish ninth overall.

Three-time defending champions China crashed out at the semi-final stage as they went down 84-90 to China, while Chinese Taipei made it to the final winning 60-57.

In the 5th to 8th classification match semi- finals, Philippines crushed Thailand 81-46 and Lebanon were 79-56 winners over Kuwait.

The final, third place play- off and remaining classification matches bring the curtain down on the championship today.
