Bahrain Accedes to WIPO Locarno Agreement

Accession reinforces the Kingdom's commitment to innovation, investment and intellectual property protection

The Kingdom of Bahrain has officially deposited its instrument of accession to the Locarno Agreement Establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, marking another step in strengthening the Kingdom's intellectual property framework.

The accession was formalised during a ceremony held at WIPO headquarters, attended by Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva, and Maryam Abdulaziz Al Doseri, Commercial Attaché at Bahrain's Permanent Mission in Geneva.

Administered by WIPO, the Locarno Agreement establishes a unified international classification system for industrial designs, making it easier to register and manage industrial design rights while promoting consistency and cooperation among intellectual property offices worldwide.

Bahrain said the accession reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing its intellectual property system, encouraging innovation and creativity, and creating a business-friendly environment that supports investment and sustainable economic growth.

The Kingdom also reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation in the field of intellectual property, highlighting its support for a more effective global intellectual property system that promotes innovation while safeguarding intellectual property rights.
