Travel Agency Closed Over Violations

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) has closed a travel and tourism office after it was found to be organising trips without obtaining the required licence and approvals.

The action follows reports that several Bahraini citizens were unable to enter the Syrian Arab Republic after some travel agencies failed to complete the necessary security clearances and regulatory procedures before departure.

The authority said it has launched administrative measures within its legal jurisdiction in accordance with approved regulations and procedures.

Unlicensed Operations Targeted

The BTEA confirmed that one travel office was shut down after investigations found it had been arranging tourist trips without the required approval from the authority, in violation of regulations governing tourism activities in Bahrain.

It warned that further administrative and legal measures would be taken against any travel agency found organising trips before securing all required permits and approvals or failing to comply with established regulations.

Protecting Travellers’ Rights

The authority stressed that travel and religious tour operators must complete all security approvals, permits, and regulatory requirements imposed by the relevant authorities in destination countries before arranging any trips.

These measures aim to protect travellers’ rights, prevent avoidable delays and disruptions, and ensure passengers do not face difficulties due to incomplete procedures.

Public Urged to Use Licensed Agencies

The BTEA said it will continue strengthening oversight of the travel and tourism sector by monitoring compliance among travel agencies and ensuring services meet professional and contractual standards.

It urged citizens and residents to book trips only through licensed travel offices and to verify that all necessary permits, approvals, and procedures are completed before travelling.

The authority said these efforts support reliable tourism services, enhance travellers’ confidence, and contribute to the sustainable growth of Bahrain’s tourism sector.
