Bahrain’s decision to sign an agreement supporting peace with Israel comes within His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s vision to promote the principles of peaceful coexistence and consolidate the culture of cooperation and mutual respect.

This was part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s statement delivered by Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani yesterday in the General Debate of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr Al Zayani renewed Bahrain’s calls on the international community to unite efforts to achieve security, stability, peace and prosperity in the Middle East region by adhering to the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.

“The Kingdom of Bahrain has chosen the path of peace as an approach and a strategic option to bring lasting and comprehensive peace to the region, and to consolidate a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence for the good of the peoples of the region and the world, and to combat the ideology of extremism and hatred,” the Minister said.

He noted that this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the accession of Bahrain to the UN, expressing the pride of the Kingdom, its leadership, government and people.

Dr Al Zayani highlighted Bahrain’s achievement in cooperating with the international community and its commitment to achieving the goals and purposes of the UN to serve all humanity.

“Bahrain is keen to be fully prepared to face the repercussions of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and to harness all capabilities and efforts to protect its citizens and residents, as well as provide the necessary health care for all without discrimination,” he said. The minister emphasised that the national efforts, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, play a major role in the effective response to deal with the virus since the announcement of the Kingdom’s first case in February last year
