TDT | Manama
A group of representatives proposed an amendment to the law yesterday, to reduce private school fees by 50 per cent in light of the lifestyle changes caused by the global pandemic. Representative Adel AlAsoumi pointed out that the proposal was made after considering the current situation of parents who have incurred heavy costs to pay private school fees, despite the interruption of the educational process and its limitation to e-learning.
He also highlighted that many parents had to incur additional costsupgraded internet plans and also new electrical devices for their children. Al-Asoumi along with a group of deputies, proposed the amendment to the 1998 law number 25, regarding education and training institutions in the Kingdom.
He said that their amendment stipulates that school fees should be reduced by at least 50pc for all students. Al-Asoumi, along with Ammar Al-Abbas, Muhammad Bu Hamoud, Mamdouh Al-Saleh and Khaled Bouach stressed that the proposal has an urgent need, especially in light of the financial crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping across the Kingdom.
Most private schools did not offer any kind of fees reduction, but some even sought to increase their profits, said Al-Asoumi. He stressed that such behaviour, of trying to take advantage of the situation, is far from the nobility of the educational message that must be sent out.
