Abandoned cars eating away Salmabad roads

Manama

It seems the roads are shrinking in Salmabad.

Two-way roads here hardly provide space for two vehicles coming from both direction to pass each other. It’s no wonder, as half of the road area is occupied by dusty abandoned cars parked on the roadside.

Motorists and pedestrians are having a tough time covering the area, and traffic congestion has become a regular affair here. The situation is so grim that many people admitted that they thought it was a one-way traffic road.

“The roads here appear much narrower because of the abandoned cars on the roadside. Many people who come here think it’s a one-way route. Many motorists take a longer route to skip the traffic in this area,” a resident of Salmabad, Ali, told DT News.

A paint shop owner, Sharath, said the traffic in the area was affecting his business. “Many customers don’t come here because of the traffic and lack of parking space. They prefer to go to other parts of Salmabad or other areas in Bahrain,” he said.

A businessman in the area, Azghar, said driving through the road was a big headache. “Traffic moves only if the vehicles coming from both the direction cooperate. If the authorities remove the abandoned cars, the traffic woes would end,” he said.
