Election committee lists out poll procedures

ManamaThe voting to the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) board will be manual, although the counting of the votes will be done by machine, the election committee which held a meeting with businessmen said yesterday. 

Anyone who has registered to vote can find out whether he/she is eligible to vote by checking the BCCI website www.bcci.bh today. The members’ data in the voters’ list are registered according to the CR records of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism.The election committee announced that they will start receiving voters’ applications for data insertion/amendment from Sunday until Tuesday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the chamber’s main premises (Bait Al Tijjar).

“According to the chamber’s law and executive bylaw, the voter should be the owner of the sole proprietorship or the legal representative to the member company (the chairperson and board members). If a company has more than one legal representative, one representative should be assigned to attend the General Assembly and vote. According to the capital-to-votes list in BCCI’s law, the number of votes each member has is determined by the capital,” said Chairperson of the elections committee Jassim Hassan Abdul A’Al

“The legal representatives of a member company are its chairperson and board members only. Legal representatives do not include other partners of the company or its authorized signatory at the chamber or the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism,” he said. He said that with regard to the owner of an Individual establishment, only one official identity document (passport or identity card) should be presented, while a company’s legal representative will need to present BCCI membership card accompanied by one official identity document (passport or identity card).

The elections will be held on March 10. “Voting will start from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. If voters who have not yet cast their votes and wish to do so, the chairman of the elections committee should allow them and then announce the end of the voting time after the last voter,” he said. Voters should proceed to the election hall to vote right after registering and receiving the elections participation document.
