Five ministries win excellence awards

Manama : Five ministries bagged this year’s eGovernment Excellence Awards announced at a ceremony held at the Gulf Hotel in Adliya yesterday.

The winners were:

1: Ministry of Transport and Telecommunication (‘Best Government Application for Smart Devices Award) 

2: Ministry of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning (‘Best Practice in Community eParticipation’ Award). 

3: Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs (‘Best eGovernment Integrated Services’ Award)

4: Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Health (Award for the ‘Best eGovernment Website’).

5: Fatima Said Mustafa Al Halli, Batool Sabt and Mazin Al Noaimi (Award for the ‘Best eConcept’.)

6: Abdulwahed Faqeeh and Sayed Khadem Fadhel (Best eCitizen Award for having made the highest number of payments through eGovernment portal during the year). 

7: Takaful International (the ‘Best Application for Smart Devices’ in the Private Sector Award).

The winners were honoured by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information &Communication Technology, who patronized the competition. 

The competition, which is in its 9th edition, aims to encourage the ICT sector of Bahrain.

Ministers, high-ranking government officials, businessmen and other invited guests attended the award ceremony.

“The launch of the eGovernment Excellence Award in 2008 has enhanced government’s direction in spreading the culture of knowledge, established foundations of online excellence and distributing it amongst the  sectors, segments and institutions,” said His Highness Shaikh Mohammed.

Since it was introduced, the award was inclusive in understanding and highlighting all national initiatives. It also played a role in highlighting the national businesses and initiatives in the ICT arena until it became a merging point for government organizations to reach national excellence. Furthermore, it became a meeting point for exchanging ideas and successful experiences in the field of best innovative practices applied internationally,”Shaikh Mohammed said.

Projects reflect maturity: jury chief

“We look forward to continue receiving participation in the upcoming editions of the award, which has become a platform of encouraging innovation and excellence. I congratulate all winners for their outstanding projects that have truly deserved the honour of winning. I also value all participant’s efforts and contributions for this year’s award, wishing them all the best and success in making a better future for the good and benefit of all,” he added.

“The quality of project reflects the maturity of the Bahraini eGovernment which means that the level is generally quite high,” said Louise Thomasen, Jury Committee Chairman

“The best applications from participation are the ones that are based on studies and local statistics,” said Jury Member Amani Shajera.

 “All eServices provided by the institutions from private or government sector, or even from citizens suggestions, it all contributes to the development and enhancement of the Bahraini citizen’s life and it adds value to the economy,” she added.

“The participation was from a variety of sectors and not just a few sectors, we have participation from health, education, also addressing special needs people,” said Ahmed Al-Mahri, a Jury member.
