Remand extended for fraud Asian couple

Manama

An Asian couple embroiled in a fraud and illegal sex affair case had their detention extended by another 30 days, pending investigation.

The couple allegedly registered their newborn baby under the man's legitimate wife ID, according to court files.

The man allegedly had an extramarital affair with the woman, and a baby was born from this relationship.

But the 35-year-old male suspect reportedly used his wife's ID card to have the baby formally registered.

The male suspect’s legitimate wife resides in his hometown, and the man said he married the woman suspect secretly without notarizing a marriage certificate because he was afraid of his wife.

The couple’s crime came to light when the competent authorities requested the wife's passport after issuing the certificate for the baby.

During questioning, the pair reportedly exchanged accusations on each other.  The 40-year-old woman suspect said she met her co-accused after fleeing from her sponsor’s house, where she served as a domestic servant.

"I arrived in Bahrain in 2012 and worked as a domestic servant. But I fled from there after a month. I started living with a friend in an apartment in Busaiteen, and began working as a maid on hour basis," the woman said in her statement.

"When I met him (the male accused) I moved in with him. I lived with him only for for two months before moving out. But later I discovered I was pregnant and he made the hospital arrangements for my delivery," she added.
