Video shows veg being collected from dustbin

Manama : A new video has emerged revealing workers picking up vegetables from garbage bin, causing outrage among members of the public.

The video footage shows workers running away as the person who recorded the video approaches them. The video shows boxes of what seemed to be rotten vegetables. Kitchen utensils are seen which the men apparently used to remove rotten parts of the vegetables.

“This is why the vegetables they sell are cheaper than market prices,” he said in the video. He said that the men were sitting there cutting out the rotten parts of the vegetables to sell it.

“It makes me wonder if I have ever purchased rotten food. I hope these people are caught to end this practice,” said Manama resident Asif.

“This is a shocking video, I never imagined that this sort of things do happen in Bahrain,” said Hassan, a Bahraini.

People expressed their outrage on social media where the video was shared. Numerous users called on the authorities to take action against these men.

This is the third such video to have surfaced in the past one month. In the first video, three men were seen picking up vegetables from a garbage can.

In the second video, a man, reportedly the owner of a restaurant, is seen picking up tomatoes from the trash.

After the second video went viral, a prominent human rights organization launched a campaign.

The campaign titled ‘Be right, Know your rights’, by  Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) was aimed at educating citizens about their rights and to empower them.

“We are launching this campaign to highlight the rights of the citizens and to correct wrong practices. We call upon the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism to investigate and take action,” the society had stated.
