Temple renovation gets the backing of Municipal Council

Manama : The Capital Municipal Council yesterday pledged its full support for a proposal to rebuild a temple in Manama.

This came during a meeting of the Chairman of the board of the Secretariat of the Capital, Mohammed Ali Al-Khuzai and Vice President of Capital Municipal Council, Mazen Ahmad Al-Omran with representatives from the Hindu community at the Council’s office in Zinj. The head of the Hindu community in Bahrain, Manoj N. Bhatia and other representatives were present.

Al-Khuzai told the community members that the Council is ready to provide all services to them in accordance with the rights guaranteed by the Municipalities Law.

Welcoming the idea, he further said that the renovation should be “in accordance with the requirements laid down by the competent authorities.”

“The Municipal Council will support the Manama temple project and provide the community with all the support the council needed,” said Mazen Ahmad Al-Omran.  He also assured that the Council will make sure that things run smoothly in the area at the time of construction, as the temple is located in the main souq area.

“Almost two third of the residents in the Capital are expats and it is important that we cater to their needs too,” the Vice President said adding: “Bahrain has witnessed the most remarkable examples of religious tolerance and the fusion of civilisations and has allowed all to practice religious rituals freely.”
