Illegal fish trade closed down
Manama : Municipal authorities have closed down the illegal fish trading activity conducted in an unhygienic surrounding, following complaints from residents.
DT News had reported that a group of expatriates were running their fish supply business adjacent to a trashcan at a spot near the Yateem Center.
Reportedly, the men supplied fish to businesses. Residents complained that the workers stored and handled the fish in unhygienic conditions. The group also used the trashcan to store the fish.
The men now no longer operate the fish business in the locality after the DT report.
“Workers from Manama Municipal council came and removed the fish and other items near the trashcan. The men were not there when it was being removed. We informed the fish vendors that it was the authorities that removed it. Yet the next day they came back with more fish and continued operating the business at the location. However, when they were made aware that a news was published in a newspaper and that further action would be taken if they continue their illegal business there, they finally vacated the place,” a source said.
According to sources, the men are now involved in helping a man block parking spaces in the same location. Apparently they use scrap cars to block parking spaces in the residential area. They park the scarp car in parking spot meant for the residents of the locality. “I am not sure how they are associated with the man but we have seen them helping each other multiple times,” a resident said.
“The scrap car is parked there so that when the Pakistani man comes, he can remove the scrap car and park his car. The parking spots are intended for people from our residential area and he does not have the right to take our parking spaces. We filed a police complaint on this, although on his request we retracted the police complaint on condition that he remove the scrap car and that he does not park in this location,” the resident added.
