First amphibious fuel station to come up in Budaiya village

ManamaThe first amphibious fuel station in the Kingdom will come up at Budaiya village near the north-western coasts of the island, DT News has learnt. The station, which will serve automobiles and boats, will be established in the next two years, according to sources.

Documents of the project were presented yesterday to Oil Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa. It was presented and discussed while the minister received the parliamentary and municipal representatives of the area yesterday. During the meeting, the minister emphasised on the ministry’s keenness on fulfilling the growing demand for fuel stations in all four governorates of the Kingdom.

Shaikh Mohammed listened to MP Hamad Al Dossary and Northern Area Municipal Council Member Abdulla Al Dossary, who conveyed to him the necessity of establishing a service station in Budaiya area, which only has one station serving a large population.

Speaking more about the project to DT News was MP Hamad Al Dossary, who confirmed that “the minister welcomed the idea and that it will see the light of day within the next two to three years”.

“A second fuel station is needed in the area to serve the villages of Diraz, Bani Jamra, Budaiya, Janabiya, Al Jasra and other north-western villages. The idea of establishing an amphibious station comes to reduce pressure on the existing gas station in Saar and to serve the huge number of fishermen in the area,” Al Dossary said.

“This project is the first-of-its-kind in the region and would help the amateur and professional sailors. It would save them the hassle and risk of driving to Saar, filling gas in unsafe containers and transporting them back to the shore in their private vehicles,” he said.

The municipal representative added that the project is a necessity to the residents of villages on Budaiya and Janabiya highways, in addition to the newly established Northern City housing project, which is set to open soon in the area and includes hundreds of houses and public establishments.
