Bahrain Airport departure tax to be increased to BD 7
Manama : The Ministry of Transportation and Communication has decided to raise the fees on passengers departing through Bahrain International Airport (BIA) to BD7 from the current BD5, according to a notification published in the gazette.
The increased fee will come into effect after 90 days from the date of publication of the notification on December 29. This means that from March 2017 passengers will have to pay the increased departure tax each time they exit. The departure tax is collected by airlines while passengers book the ticket and the amount collected in tax is passed on to the airport authorities.
The increased fees should be seen in the light of the Kingdom’s trend to impose more fees to tide over the financial crunch. The decree 25/2016 imposes BD7 on passengers departing Bahrain by air. It has also imposed BD1 on the transit passengers in return for using the airport’s facilities. BIA will start applying this decree starting March 26.
While booking tickets the air passengers will have to pay airport departure tax besides, fuel charge, passenger facility fees along with base fare.
